Maintains strong client focus by working with line management to deliver HR solutions in support of business objectives and HR strategies

The Consulting HR Professional is responsible for multiple programs or departments which are engaged in providing innovative solutions. Works as a partner with executive management and provides leadership to other HR staff. Provides professional/strategic direction to department managed and/or is the technical expert for the design, development and implementation of HR programs and practices, including project plan delivery. Provides expert input to HR strategy and policy development globally. Establishes operational guidelines, systems and processes on a regional or global basis. Is considered the expert on one or more functional areas.

Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Professional mastery of HR programs, policies and practices leading to the solution of complex HR problems. Demonstrates appropriate skills and competencies for this position.

  • Mentors others in the HR profession. Works with top management in developing leading edge solutions for implementation and development of HR programs.

Communication/Negotiation

  • Plans and leads complex negotiations with internal and external parties, i.e., line and HR management, other functions, government agencies, external vendors, etc., to reach agreements on items of critical business importance.

Problem Solving

  • Anticipates emerging HR trends and defines responses using visionary concepts within the overall IBM HR strategy.

  • Develops HR strategic initiatives for review and implementation by executive management.

Contribution/Leadership

  • Leads or manages exploratory activities into new HR programs and practices. Identifies strategic need for new HR programs and gains executive approval. Leads design activities related to strategic HR programs and policies. Develops strategic vision of functional/unit mission for review and approval of executive management. Responsible to guide application of strategic vision in developing programs or leading engagements.

  • Influences people and organizations, including IBM executive management, on critical, complex and unprecedented issues related to HR programs/practices. Is respected as the subject matter expert inside and outside and thought leader in the organization.

  • Leads multi-functional teams to develop and implement strategic HR programs. May manage other managers or senior professionals.

Impact on Business/Scope

  • Accountable for projects or programs with global or business unit impact. May manage geographic or functional area.

  • Responsible for the successful development and implementation of strategic HR programs/solutions, on a geographic or global basis.

  • Responsible for committing multiple resources and achieving client satisfaction.

  • Responsible for results of highly visible programs, an informed management team, and impact of programs on overall business results

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
