IBM Organizational Change Management (OCM) – Organization Design Lead in San Jose, California

You will use a mix of consultative skills, business knowledge, and technical expertise to effectively integrate packaged technology into our clients' business environment and achieve business results.

Your Role and Responsibilities

The Organization Design Lead will drive IBM’s efforts to support clients in redefining target operating models and future-state organization models as part of digital transformation efforts. New functionality in Enterprise Applications (e.g. with SAP S/4HANA) and also Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent workflows, Robotic Process Automation, Cloud, etc. are allowing clients to rethink their organization and operating models for the future. The Organization Design Lead is part of the overall PMO and OCM team, but will bring specific expertise and proven skills to develop/align with future state Target Operating Models and define client organization structure and reporting relationships, staffing levels, required skills, etc.

The successful Organization Design Lead will also possess experience and skills to drive overall Change Management and Learning activities to help clients adopt the enterprise of the future and realize benefits from large technology programs.

This would include defining overall OCM strategy, performing executive alignment, stakeholder analysis and communication, change Impacts identification and management, journey mapping, readiness assessments, job-role mapping, user adoption tracking and management, and value realization.

The Manager-level role will reside in IBM GBS’ Enterprise Applications practice in the Change and Transformation Service Area. Applying IBM’s methodology combined with consulting skills, industry and business knowledge, process best practices, measurements and tools to analyze organizational change issues, you will drive solutions that transform our clients’ business.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead organization design workstreams and/or projects

  • Develop future state Target Operating Model for clients

  • Define client organization structure and reporting relationships, staffing levels, required skills, etc.

  • Align IBM service offerings and new client capabilities to the future state organization

  • Define organization structure and reporting relationships, including job descriptions

  • Develop and drive transition plans for implementation of new operating/organization models

  • Facilitate Executive Alignment workshops that help clarify the business transformation vision and scope, new operating models, organization, etc.

  • Define, develop, and drive the execution of the overall OCM strategies based on the business transformation program vision

  • Identify and analyze, develop management plans, and facilitate on-going engagement for client stakeholders and associated communication

  • Develop support networks (e.g. Change Agent Network, Super User Network, etc.), roles and responsibilities, and timeline to support program activities (as needed)

  • Conduct Change Impact and Readiness assessments to identify key changes or readiness gaps that will impact the organization, and develop and execute change management activities to support the transition

  • Manage the creation and maintenance of all program-related training materials, Train-the-Trainer approach, training schedule development, training metrics and measurement approach, training environment management

Skills needed

  • Credibility and ability to interact with and influence all levels of an organization

  • Ability to drive the required organizational design and change given the understanding of the culture

  • Understanding of Target Operating Model definition and implementation

  • Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA functionality at a non-technical level

  • Large organization change management program leadership experience

  • Strong communication, organization, leadership and project management skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work on fast-paced project teams and adhere to deadlines

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5 years’ combined experience leading efforts to design and implement new organization and target operating models including shared services organizations

  • 5 years’ combined experience also in the broader suite of OCM and Training services

  • At least 4 years of providing OCM solutions described above in support of Enterprise Applications programs (especially SAP, but also including potentially Oracle, Microsoft, Workday, etc.)

  • 1-2 years’ experience with Agile/Hybrid Agile and Design Thinking Methodologies

  • Potential travel up to 80% of the time within the US, pending Covid-19

  • Bachelor's degree, in Business, Organization Design, Organization Behavior, Organization Development, or similar field (master’s degree preferred)

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 7+ years’ combined experience leading efforts to design and implement new organization and target operating models including shared services organizations

  • 7+ years’ combined experience also in the broader suite of OCM and Training services

  • At least 4 years of providing OCM solutions described above in support of Enterprise Applications programs (especially SAP, but also including potentially Oracle, Microsoft, Workday, etc.)

  • 1-2 years’ experience with Agile/Hybrid Agile and Design Thinking Methodologies
