IBM Lead QA / Test Engineer in San Jose, California

Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM Research is seeking a Lead QA / Test Engineer to work at its Research Center in Almaden, CA.

You will develop the cultural philosophies, practices, and tools driving the quality of our web application applications as well as increasing the velocity of deployments through test automation. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and design teams to understand user experience, work flow, expected outcomes and the definition of done, to develop a testing automation approach that addresses all aspects of the software solution.

You will be responsible for overseeing team development of automated testing solution, including the creation, deployment, maintenance of automation scripts. The position is also responsible for creating metrics and increasing test coverage using the automated systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform platform integration, performance and security testing to ensure superior consistency, quality and consumability

  • Develop Test plans and cases to improve reliability, availability, serviceability, maintainability and ensure that our software components are expertly designed, tested, debugged, verified and integrated

  • Design and validate End-To-End scenarios in the integrated environments, as well as assist in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving defects encountered during various stages of integration, cross platform

  • Drive automation tests that provide high coverage of the key positive and negative use cases that customers need to ensure no regression occurs from release to release

  • Design and perform regression, performance verification, HADR (high availability, disaster recovery), UI automation testing

  • Integrate test scripts, results and metrics into the overall Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery (CICD) process

  • Mentor and guide the development of team members on QA / Test best practices in the context of cloud native web application

  • Investigate and implement new testing methods and tools in order to maximize testing efficiency

  • Work collaboratively with architects and developers to deliver working tested units of code in each sprint

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related area is required.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ years of experience leading agile teams as a Squad Lead, QA / Test Lead or Senior Developer

  • 5+ Experience in test automation of complex systems, building automation frameworks and coding automated test suites

  • 2+ years of experience in Cloud technologies, container deployments - Working with Docker, Kubernetes, YAML

  • Experience with authentication and authorization in the cloud - Including access token and secrets management, Single Sign-on and OAuth

  • Experience in CI / CD scripts (Continuous integration / Continuous delivery)

  • Experience with all aspects of QA testing: unit, functional, integration, end to end, user interface, smoke, performance and security testing

  • Proficient with one or more project planning and tracking tools such as Aha, Git, Zenhub, Jira, RTC etc.

  • Experience in developing and maintaining test suites through formal methods of test design

  • Knowledge of NodeJS testing libraries such as Jest, Mocha, Chai and UI Automation testing tools such Selenium

  • Experience with release management and project management. The ability to effectively collaborate with other teams on requirements, schedules, and track completion

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience with NodeJS, and UI frameworks such as Angular or React

  • Experience or knowledge of Openshift

  • Knowledge of automation / configuration management frameworks such as Ansible, Salt

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL Databases
