IBM Design Program Director in San Jose, California

Your Role and Responsibilities

The Position:

As a Design Program Director, you'll contribute to every aspect of the product creation process, from brainstorming the next great innovation to tweaking pixels before launch. You'll mentor members of our team to elevate our level of craft, guide branding decisions to craft a uniquely IBM product experience, and drive UX and UI consistency across the platform.

Key to Your Role:

  • Guide the design of a software platform while collaborating alongside brilliant software engineers and marketers in an innovative culture

  • Actively participate in design discovery activities to help define products and features

  • Sketch and prototype to quickly iterate on innovative UX/UI experiences

  • Execute high/low fidelity wireframes and user flows that promote ease of use

  • Work with user research and product managers on user testing

  • Design visually arresting interfaces and visualizations that push past the obvious and delight our fans around the globe

  • Champion the IBM Data & AI brand and work with other designers to own, uphold and document UI kits and design style guides to achieve consistency across our platform

  • Prioritize work effectively and collaborate with product managers, developers, research and designers as needed

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Design portfolio that shows your design process, and shipped products

  • Advanced Interaction Design skills and Human-Centered design methods in practice that meet user needs and business goals

  • Actively engaged in the UX community and in tune with the latest developments in the industry

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in design

  • Ability to define product requirements based on user and stakeholder research

  • Deep understanding of web technologies such HTML, CSS and JavaScript

  • Mastery of design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, inVision, Adobe creative suite.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Master's Degree in a design field or Computer Science or Human Computer Interaction

  • 15 years of experience in design

  • Desire to make the best products in the industry hands-down

  • Infectious curiosity - always looking for opportunities to learn new things

  • Self-Motivation

  • Demonstrated communication skills
