Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research is seeking a Back-End Developer to work at its Research Center in Almaden, CA.
As a Back-End Developer, you will work in an agile, collaborative environment across software architecture, understanding both front-end and back-end concerns, while specializing in the back-end. We work in small, cross-functional teams with big goals, so you will need to be adaptive and adept at clear communication.
Build robust and scalable back-end software
Architect and implement systems and APIs
Create high level code quality through unit tests, automation, and code reviews
Build a system for scalable, high-performance computation in the cloud
Build scalable and testable software using modern technologies
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related area is required. This is a long-term supplemental position.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
4+ years of experience in back-end development
2+ years of NodeJS expertise
Expertise with building and using Docker containers, as well as Kubernetes
Experience architecting complex asynchronous APIs
Background working with Agile, Lean, and Continuous Delivery approaches, such as Continuous Integration, TDD (Test Driven Development) etc.
An ability to embrace and reduce uncertainty through continual validated learning
Proven people skills that contribute to an open and collaborative environment
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience with creating cloud-native applications and diagnosing problems with them
Experience with JS libraries such as RXJS and Express preferred
Experience with database design (relational databases like Postgres) and intermediate level of SQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
Expertise with high performance computing (HPC)
Background with data storage on the cloud
