IBM Data Scientist in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina


As a Data Scientist at IBM, you will help transform our clients' data into tangible business value by analyzing information, communicating outcomes and collaborating on product development. Work with Best in Class open source and visual tools, along with the most flexible and scalable deployment options. Whether it's investigating patient trends or weather patterns, you will work to solve real world problems for the industries transforming how we live.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Managing Data Scientist Consultant at IBM Global Business Services, you will apply state of art AI techniques to address critical customer problems, add intelligence to automate manual workflows and drive tangible business value. You will be exposed a wide variety of problems that are clients are faced with - examples include finding defects in transmission lines using visual AI to using Natural Language Processing techniques to extract entities in a legal document.

This position is a Managing Data Scientist role with IBM Global Business Services, focusing on the design, development, and implementation of AI models and applications to solve client problems and drive business outcomes. Your responsibilities will include

  • Managing a team of data scientists and full stack developer to deliver on clients needs

  • Hands on management of the end-to-end AI lifecycle - data collection and preparation, exploratory data analysis, model selection/testing/validation, systematic model explainability, model interpretation in business terms and deploying the model for serving

  • Working with clients to understand their business needs, translate business problems into AI solutions and apply best practices and communicating findings back to the client

  • Lead workstreams and serve as a mentor for other data scientist

  • Willingness to travel up to 75% to client sites upon a mutual 'return to work' initiative starting

If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the anticipated compensation range for the position $126,000 to $194,000 is based on a full-time schedule. Your ultimate compensation may vary depending on your job-related skills and experience. For part time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • BS in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or AI

  • 3+ years of proficiency in Python

  • 3+ years of experience with applying deep learning and machine learning techniques to solve problems

  • 3+ years of Experience with common Python libraries used by data scientists (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, Seaborn, etc.) and deep learning libraries (pytorch or Tesnorflow)

  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data

  • Experience building end-to-end data pipelines and deploying in the Cloud (AWS or Azure or GCP)

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment

  • Experience in Agile development

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Master's degree in quantitative Field

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with team leader or managerial experience preferred

  • Proficiency with dealing with big data (Spark)

  • Hands-on experience deploying analytical models to solve business problems

  • Experience working in a consulting or services environment
