We’re looking for an experienced Researcher ready to build strong relationships with product managers, design teams, developers, and other stakeholders to represent the voice of our users and ensure we deliver the right experiences, every time. The ideal candidate will have more than five years of research experience in a Software-as-a-Service business.

This role will focus on a key part of IBM’s Hybrid and Multi-Cloud strategy: Containerization. Specifically, our Kubernetes products and associated capabilities.

On day one, you have:

Experience and comfort with learning new industries and domains and demonstrating subject matter expertise to stakeholders and customers.

Extensive experience identifying generative research needs with stakeholders such as product managers and developing robust research plans that balance thoroughness with urgency.

Experience defining evaluative research needs and ensuring studies are completed as necessary.

Experience and passion for mentoring other researchers and designers to enhance their skills and ensure users’ needs are always represented through the design process.

Experience contributing to research practice building by helping define best practices, contributing to internal documentation, and representing the research practice cross-functionally.

Experience triangulating insights across research studies with customers, representative users and behavioral analytics

Be recognized by the Research and Design organizations for your contributions and advocacy for the user.

Identify cross-platform research needs and execute multi-method studies with your neighbor researchers.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

  • Masters Degree in Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, or related discipline

  • At least 5 years of experience conducting user research on software

  • Experience conducting research throughout the entire product development lifecycle

  • Proven experience building cross-functional relationships with a focus on business impact through building trusted partnerships

  • The ability to create a dendrogram on an etch-a-sketch

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise

  • At least 7 years of experience conducting user research, including work on enterprise SaaS offerings with agile/continuous delivery releases

  • Examples of research that has translated into actionable design recommendations and product results
