About the Team

We have a talented team of technical professionals responsible to deliver thermal solutions for IBM high end computer servers. You will work as an integral part of our overall team supporting all programs and our laboratory operations. Our product scope covers all cooling for IBM Z including IO and Crypto, Mid-Range IBM Power, and IBM Q room temperature cooling. In addition, our team is responsible for the ATEEL (Advanced Thermal and Energy Efficiency Laboratory) delivering advanced cooling technologies as well as Data Center and Sustainability leadership and related client support for IBM Systems.

Job Duties

Work as a member of our thermal engineering team designing and developing cooling systems and related technologies for our high-end computer servers from concept through field support. Our thermal lab technician role supports all thermal testing and lab operations for our team with responsibilities that include:

  • Performing testing to characterize thermal components such as fans, heat sinks, and cold plates as well as testing of server prototypes or other thermal assemblies.

  • Building of thermal test assemblies, prototype servers, and laboratory test fixtures.

  • Performing functional system level thermal testing of IBM Z and IBM Power servers in lab and test chamber environments including bring up and exercise of systems as well as collection and reduction of data.

  • Additional responsibilities may include ordering of parts and supplies, supporting lab safety, security, asset management, calibration, and other lab operations.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory, engineering test, manufacturing, or other technical position.

  • Demonstrated communication and team skills

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Preferred Requirements:

  • Electronics technician skills with experience in a hardware development lab

  • Experience in a thermal engineering or similar laboratory (familiarity with thermal couples, wind tunnel testing, data acquisition, etc.)

  • Lab automation coding skills (Python, Labview, Matlab)

  • Experience with IBM Z or IBM Power hardware system testy
