IBM Technical Sales Engineer - Z Architect in New York, New York

Your Role and Responsibilities

An IBM Z Architect is a leader in the definition and architecture of an end-to-end solution including the IBM Z platform. During construction, a Z Architect is the advocate for the client and guides the technical team. The Z Architect defines the structures of solutions and architectures to address client business strategy & problems; understands client needs and business constraints, works in levels of abstraction, applies industry knowledge, and leverages appropriate business elements and IT to address those needs; ensures viability of the proposed solutions - conducting solution assurance assessments; identifies and mitigates potential risks to the success of the project; pro-actively mediates resolutions to project conflict; and documents architectural decisions across the above elements. The Z Architect's work is focused on the front end of the solution lifecycle: listening to stakeholders, understanding their business problem, their requirements, making trade-offs between the business requirements, constraints of the system, and concerns of the various stakeholders and systematically forming incrementally more detailed definitions of the structures of a solution -- an architecture. Defines and decides objectives within specified business concept or project and may have responsibility for tools and assigned resources.

Accountable for department results and for activities and/or projects involving multi-functional teams.

Activities are subject to business measurements, impact customer satisfaction, and impact project costs or expenses. Regularly participates in overall functional program planning.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • At least 3 years' experience as IT infrastructure specialist or architect for z/OS environments.

  • Experience in defining solution structures and architectures.

  • Expertise in using formal methods for solution development.

  • Full life-cycle architectural experience.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Experience managing and working across multiple programs and IBM divisions.

  • Client Presentation Experience

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Several years' experience as IT infrastructure specialist for maintain, design and provision of complex z/OS environments.

  • Basic Soft Skills: ITIL Foundation and Agile Practices Knowledge and ability to work well as a Team!

  • Several years expertise in one (or more) of the following capabilities: SMP/E; z/OSMF; RACF; GDPS; Parallel Sysplex; DB2; CICS; IMS; Security on z

The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year. This position was posted on the date cited in the key job details section and is anticipated to remain posted for 21 days from this date or less if not needed to fill the role. This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan.
