IBM Software Development Manager - Payment Systems in London, United Kingdom

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Software Development Manager for Payment Systems Development you will lead a high-performing software development group focused on developing the next generation of market-leading payment products with our strategic partner. Your management expertise, deep technical skills, and large-scale distributed systems' development experience will position you to be a key leader in our ecosystem team, bringing out the best in your team, earning the respect of our partner and driving IBM technology adoption in new markets.

You will have excellent people skills and use them to motivate your team and negotiate scope and missions within the organization. You will have extensive experience leading software development organizations, and a passion for delivering high quality software using an agile process. Your work will involve close collaboration with Executives, Senior Managers, Architects, and Product Managers across our global organization and our partner's.


  • Hiring and people management of a department of software developers and technical staff.

  • Overseeing the quality, schedule, and pace of software development in your organization.

  • Enabling your team to perform their best by negotiating resources and skill development to remove blocks and open new opportunities.

  • Handling performance management processes and working with the global management team.

  • Delivering customer value by effectively managing customer escalations as well as translating customer business needs into innovative solutions.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Proven management experience in a software product development organization managing developers, architects, and test engineers.

  • Deep expertise in development of large-scale, message-based distributed software running in traditional (VM) and containerized (Kubernetes, OpenShift) deployments.

  • Track record of successful hiring and talent development

  • Release management experience with a track record of delivering business commitments on schedule

  • Experience with multiple cloud services, including IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, Google as well as VMware and OpenStack

  • Thorough understanding of the Agile development process

  • Proven technical leader with strong decision-making and judgement

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience in the Banking, Payments or Cards Industry.

  • Experience of ISO standard messages e.g. ISO8583, ISO20022

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
