Your Role and Responsibilities

Designers within Client Engineering are part of a cross-functional team that stands at the forefront of our customers' engagements. Through co-creation, we aim to accelerate our customers' adoption of IBM technologies by demonstrating their potential through impactful Minimum Viable Products.

As part of an entrepreneurial team, you will have a chance to work on a variety of projects throughout the year, championing Design Thinking, educating others and putting your design skills to use all the way from the initial opportunity framing workshops to Minimum Viable Product deliveries.

You will facilitate and lead design sessions with clients and IBM teams, using contemporary methods and tools.

You will synthesise research, client insights and requirements to evidence clear problem statements and build consensus.

Finally, you will rely on your own expertise, research, and co-design techniques to connect the dots and design impactful prototypes demonstrating how IBM technologies can be used to solve our customers' challenges. An ideal candidate is empathetic, expressive, inquisitive, and divergent.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Follow a project from the early discussions and opportunity framing workshops up to the initial Minimum Viable Product delivery

  • Apply IBM Design Thinking to translate requirements into hypotheses; then conduct research, and facilitate co-creation to craft the right solution for our customers and their users

  • Be comfortable framing business solutions around technology

  • Work closely with senior leaders, explaining design decisions to build consensus

  • Work in an Agile, collaborative environment to understand stakeholder requirements and ensure that designs address user pain points and serve the users with an elite experience

  • Build and maintain a trusted relationship with cross-disciplinary IBM and client teams

  • Turn ideas into reality with a focus on innovation and development of new processes, ways of working, and technology

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and continuous learning by staying up to date on the latest design tools and methods

  • Apply relevant industry experience to shape solutions

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in UX Design with an emphasis on the early-stages of the design process (advocacy, workshop facilitation, research, solution design)

  • Deep experience in a client facing role, including workshop facilitation where you've guided non-designers through new ways of working, anticipated client needs, and worked with peers and executives to help the client have an excellent experience

  • Experience in using design thinking as part of an Agile delivery team, working with developers, consultants, data specialists and more, to deliver a Minimum Viable Product

  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to build trust with key stakeholders and team members, both within the context of a project and a wider design community

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • Some industry experience (financial services, public sector, retail...)

  • Experience in working with large organisations (public or private) in a customer-facing role

  • Knowledge of our preferred ways of working (Lean Startup, Extreme Programming) and design tools (Mural, Adobe, Sketch, Figma...)
