Your Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced design leader to guide a team to deliver great end-to-end customer experiences ( in either of our Columbus OH or Littleton MA locations ). The team you’ll be mentoring is part of a worldwide design organization that is collectively responsible for IBM Sterling software products — an AI-enabled portfolio that enables users to build intelligent, self-correcting supply chains. The role will involve enabling the team to apply design thinking methodology and practices at enterprise scale, contributing to the design of a suite of products (with guidance from a portfolio-level design leader) to deliver frequent product release cycles and tightly align with the product owners and development teams using agile methodologies.
Responsibilities will consist of leading design thinking activities such as empathy mapping (remotely and in-person), designing business process scenarios and flows for user interfaces, researching and validating customer requirements, translating actionable insights from the design research team into mockups and wireframes (low and high fidelity) for user scenario flows, etc. Along with this, shorter-term projects will arise that will further flex the creative muscles (proof of concepts, demos, etc.).
This role demands familiarity with current tools and methods, as well as experience leading small cross-disciplinary design teams and facilitating workshops and team meetings, and also a requires an ability to investigate and learn new approaches to problem-solving, an ability to advocate and apply design thinking and an understanding of agile methodology.

Deep knowledge of design methodologies and information architecture
The initiative to stay up to date on the latest interface and user experience design best practices for web and mobile devices
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience (3+ years) with creating user scenarios for usability testing, analysis of industry trends, task analysis, workflow design, layout & composition
Experience creating mockups and prototypes (low- and high- fidelity), as well as documenting interaction patterns for product UI
Experience applying styles across user interfaces
Experience with researching and reporting conclusions in well-developed documents
Demonstrable knowledge of wireframing and visual design tools such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.
Portfolio of previous work must be presented incorporating UI designs and/or sketches that demonstrate an understanding of interaction design and visual design
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Understand modern design thinking and design trends (including responsiveness and accessibility)
Understand different industries to better gauge how design issues and users can differ across them
Have an appreciation for detail - every pixel and interaction is important
