IBM Entry Level Mainframe Systems Engineer (WCE) in COLUMBUS, Ohio

Your Role and Responsibilities

Start date for this role is in 2020

As a Mainframe Systems Engineer you will define scope and objectives for technical projects in the area of your specialty, varying in size and complexity. Your day-to-day responsibilities will also include troubleshooting of the applications, systems and support of the mainframe offering environment.

The working environment requires you to work independently, where guidelines are available but are not always specific. You will also frequently contribute to the development of new theories and methods to resolve applications support issues.

You will be responsible for delivery, support, system development and overall functions of the system and supporting applications pertaining to the IBM mainframe environment. This will include troubleshooting, offering resolutions, or resolving technical errors and issues arising from the sue of the systems and applications.

The systems include mainframe applications hosting IBM customer data and transmissions; as well as other applications used internally. You are responsible for maintaining a high level of stability and security while minimizing system outages of the applications and systems supported.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science

  • In depth understanding of IT

  • Willingness to learn

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Theoretical or practical experience in IBM MVS / zOS Operating Systems

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following applications: RACF, RMM, REXX, TWS, ISPF, TSO and HSM

  • Experience in DB2 on MVS
