Your Role and Responsibilities

Candidates must have an active TS or above, and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI FSP. This role will require candidates to maintain a TS/SCI FSP clearance.

The IBM Cloud CTO Office is responsible for defining the Next Generation IBM Public Cloud Platform, setting up the long-term strategic direction for IBM Cloud as the Platform for secure regulated workloads, ensuring that IBM Cloud meets customer and regulatory expectations. The successfully candidate will be a significant voice in the long-term strategic direction of our IBM Cloud architecture, working closely with customers, partners, analyzing industry trends, etc. This position is for an extraordinary research engineer to increase adoption of IBM Cloud in the government and defense sectors through both partner ecosystem growth and enhancements to the security and compliance posture of IBM’s Cloud.

As a Senior Architect in the IBM Cloud CTO Office, you would drive and set architecture standards and guidance for IBM Public Cloud, and produce related key artifacts, including IBM Cloud architecture and security guidance patterns, diagrams, and technical documentation, including data boundary models, network flows, compliance controls and procedures, operator access patterns, and Cloud Platform-wide System Security Plans to be used in high-profile customer engagements and audits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a technical strategy to grow the IBM Cloud ecosystem of partners relevant to government and defense sector customers

  • Research and development for the IBM Cloud Platform, with a primary emphasis on security technologies, and compliance and regulatory procedure automation

  • Work closely with the individual IBM Cloud service owners and architects to meet requirements and security practices that will accelerate growth and adoption with government and defense sector customers

  • Provide technical & architectural leadership for next generation of product development and integration of security products and pre-built patterns for secure offerings built on Cloud-native container architecture implemented as Kubernetes-based micro-services

  • Architect, design, and implement security and compliance standards and related services that provide necessary scalability, performance and cost-effective security of the public Cloud Platform

  • Actively participate in architectural decisions, design, and code reviews

  • Work closely with distributed teams both inside and outside IBM and across Engineering, QA, Product Management in all phases of product development

  • Work in a continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous compliance environment, while evaluating and improving these engineering processes

  • Assist Engineering/Development teams to perform POCs, evaluating different vendor products

  • Produce technical documentation and architectural artifacts related to IBM Public Cloud architecture, security, and compliance guidance for IBM Cloud services and software offerings

Preferred Locations : Washington DC area or Dallas, TX or Raleigh, NC.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience in development, building large-scale distributed multi-tenant software systems, preferably in the Public Cloud space

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in Cloud and security architecture, principles, interfaces, and protocols

  • Familiarity with financial services and banking regulatory frameworks and compliance standards

  • Proficient with Cloud Native technologies, including Containers, Docker, Kubernetes and Linux

  • Micro-services based modern software development knowledge and skills in a DevOps environment

  • Any background and experience in Cloud networking is also desirable, including routing, switching, data center networking, overlay networking, security, and automation

  • Proven experience producing technical documentation and architectural artifacts

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in driving Cloud security, compliance, and architecture standards, principles, and related guidance to closure, and ensuring adoption of guidance
