IBM Mainframe Modernization Solutions Architect in Chicago, Illinois

This position is designated for one of IBM's fastest growth segments within our IBM Consulting practice within our Hybrid Cloud Transformation business unit.

As a Mainframe Modernization Architect, you will lead IBM into the future by translating system requirements into the design and development of customized systems in an agile environment. Your Role and Responsibilities

In addition to strong collaboration across the team, you will be virtually integrated into our deep learning and knowledge program as well as employee engagement across NA. In this role you will:

  • Be part of our go to market team, responsibilities include working directly with commercial clients in developing Mainframe Modernization and Migration solutions onto Hybrid-Cloud technology; thereby becoming a trusted advisor to influential decision makers

  • Provide team leadership and mentorship to project resources.

  • Provide senior level mainframe programming, analysis, and system technical support experience for active complex enterprise level projects.

  • Bring specialized development skills, business knowledge, and mentorship to integrate existing complex and specialized legacy State enterprise systems with modern enterprise systems.

  • Support as well as analyze, design, develop, and test interfaces with the central payroll system.

  • Work on interfaces and convert existing data content to new data configuration formats, including creating special data transformations and configuration routines

  • Work to harvest best practices and document lessons learned as part of continuous improvement of our offerings

  • Manage problem identification, system architecture definition, software specification and design, implementation, testing, customer training, and deployment of open source solutions

  • Work with clients and IBM teams to identify business problems and provide innovative solutions to them while evangelizing and accelerating the adoption of current and future OpenShift technologies

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 4+ years of hands-on technical experience with mainframe, non-x86 legacy systems and with technologies such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 for z/OS, Assembler, PL/I, Java, Rexx, flat/sequential files, GDGs, and VSAM

  • 4+ years of experience designing architectures for secure enterprise systems

  • 4+ years of experience migrating workloads from mainframe and non-x86 legacy systems to distributed x86 infrastructures on-premises or in the Cloud

  • 4+ years of experience integrating mainframe and non-x86 legacy systems with distributed Linux-based or Windows-based x86 servers

  • Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of work or military experience
