Your Role and Responsibilities
As part of the IBM Quantum team, you will contribute to the prototype, test, and release of new technologies for the world to use. As a talented Release Manager, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, global team of architects, designers, and developers in IBM's Quantum Cloud Software to bring new features to life. You will apply your extensive knowledge in software release management by providing innovative solutions and support to complex deployments.
You will own the Release Management lifecycle across multiple which includes scheduling, coordinating, and the management of releases across the enterprise for multiple applications across various portfolios. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, Projects, and Programs. Where necessary you’ll provide/recommend tools and services to project teams that will manage and deploy releases into production.
You will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for code through development, test, and production environments. The Release Manager Job function works collaboratively with all participants in software development and is supportive of developers and testers as they set up their build dev/test environments. You will also work with management to improve the software engineering processes and practices associated with continuously building, deploying, and updating software and environments.
The Release Management responsibilities also include building & maintaining the Release Calendar, working closely and collaborating with release managers from different portfolios across IBM Quantum, CIO, and IBM Cloud
centralizing view of all relevant releases. Leads the effort of defining the direction for release management tools and process. The Release Manager will assist in managing project(s) inter-dependencies to ensure milestone adherence and integrity of the release(s).
Role and Responsibilities
Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality
Measure and monitor progress to ensure on-time application releases
Identify, communicate and mitigate (where possible) hurdles and gaps for timely releases
Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog
Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans
Regular (weekly or as needed) Release Reporting
Communicate release details and schedules to all relevant parties as required
Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across project teams.
Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists.
Develops scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
Lead/Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks
Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
This position can be located anywhere in the USA or Canada.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Degree in Computer Science or equivalent and or equivalent work experience
8+ years relevant Information Technology experience with the last 3 years as a Release/project Manager for complex deployments
Able to design services and plan work using Agile methodologies
Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Formal Project Management experience and training
Experience with one or more: Javascript/Node.js, python, PostgreSQL, TypeScript, Qiskit, Openshift, Kubernetes.
Experience in Continuous Delivery.
Knowledge in Test-Driven Development.
Contributions in developer ecosystem/communities and open source projects
