IBM Internship: Enabling ML and Analytics in the Cloud in Böblingen, Germany

Introduction

IBM Cloud Pak for Data is a fully-integrated data and AI platform that modernizes how businesses collect, organize and analyze data to infuse AI throughout their organizations. Cloud-native by design, the platform unifies market-leading services spanning the entire analytics lifecycle.

Watson Knowledge Catalog is one of the fundamental services on Cloud Pak for Data. It helps customers to speed up their cloud journey by intelligent, self-service discovery of data, models, and more. The cloud-based enterprise metadata repository activates information for artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning. Additionally, it allows customers to access, curate, categorize and share data, knowledge assets and their relationships, wherever they reside.

IBM Db2 Data Gate is a new service on Cloud Pak for Data and provides an integrated approach to synchronize in the cloud data originating in Db2 for z/OS which is the main transactional system of many of the biggest banks, insurances, retail, etc. worldwide. It supports the increasing demand for analytics and modern, high-volume, high-frequency, read-only applications.

Your Role and Responsibilities

The goal of this internship is the tight integration between Data Gate and Watson Knowledge Catalog. In that regard, the intern will have to leverage the Watson Data API of Watson Knowledge Catalog in the lifecycle of Data Gate. The student will work with the development team of Data Gate to analyse requirements and then proceed with design, implementation, and test. The internship gives the opportunity to work with modern hybrid cloud environments and technologies like Kubernetes, OpenShift, and SaaS architectures.

A student joining our team will

  • work in a multi-cultural team, collaborating with engineers in Germany, California and China to develop innovative ideas

  • gain deep knowledge in the development life-cycle of a large project, ranging from system administration over code development and testing to integration into existing products and frameworks

  • benefit from the work with supervisors having a lot of experience in software development and scientific work at universities

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Pre-university qualification

  • Strong Java skills

  • Familiar with version control system Git

  • Familiar with working with REST API's

  • Database systems knowledge

  • Language proficiency equivalent to English C1

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree - now studying for a Master's

  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix system, JDBC, SQL, database system

  • Shell programming is a bonus
