IBM Visual and User Experience Designer in AUSTIN, Texas

Your Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Visual and UX Designer to work on IBM Storage offerings. Our interdisciplinary design teams work with development and offering management to create user experiences that delight our IBM storage clients. The designers on our team work within the design loop, while having the agility to respond to changing business requirements and user needs.

You will be working with a highly motivated and skilled design team, that is passionate about the outcomes they design and deliver for our clients.

  • Drive alignment by collaborating with designers, developers, marketers and product managers to drive a shared understanding of user’s needs and behaviors.

  • Translate research into outstanding user experiences, steward design from concept to final code. Creation of key UX artifacts such as concept maps, storyboards, taxonomies, prototypes, patterns, information architecture, workflows and design specifications.

  • Develop and playback interaction concepts to the larger team and be able to clearly defend design choices through employing prototypes at different fidelities to communicate design intent.

  • Identify new components, patterns, and templates to be incorporated into the design standards while working with other designers to ensure consistency.

  • Prioritize design projects into tasks using agile methodologies and maintain alignment through roadmaps, deadlines, and stakeholder reviews.

  • Review designs of the multi-skilled design team, improving the work while growing the designers. Foster a team culture of transparent collaboration.

  • Advocate for and facilitate Enterprise Design Thinking in everyday work, internal workshops and client meetings.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Demonstrable knowledge of wireframing and visual design tools such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.

  • At least 3 years' experience in solving complex user problems through user interface design, creating mockups and prototypes (low- and high-fidelity), as well as documenting interaction patterns for product UI.

  • Strong communication, storytelling and documentation skills.

  • Experience using agile principles towards the delivery of product.

  • Portfolio of previous work must be presented incorporating UI designs and/or sketches that demonstrate an understanding of wireframing, interaction design, visual design and design best practices.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Understand modern design thinking and design trends (including responsiveness and accessibility).

  • Understand different industries to better gauge how design issues and users can differ across them.

  • Have an appreciation for detail — every pixel and interaction is important.
