We are an infinitely curious team, always seeking new possibilities, and dedicated to creating the world's leading AI-powered, cloud- software solutions. Our renowned legacy creates endless global opportunities for our network of IBMers. We are a team of deep product experts, ensuring exceptional client experiences, with a focus on delivery, excellence, and obsession over customer outcomes.

IBM's product and technology landscape includes Research, Software, and Infrastructure. Entering this domain positions you at the heart of IBM, where growth and innovation thrive.

Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM is seeking a driven and experienced Instana Product Manager specializing in OpenTelemetry and Infrastructure Observability. This role is pivotal in advancing our mission to deliver the foremost observability platform tailored for cloud-native workloads.

OpenTelemetry: OpenTelemetry stands as a critical open-source framework for collecting and transmitting telemetry data across infrastructure and applications. Its vendor-neutral approach appeals to customers seeking comprehensive observability instrumentation for their applications. Observability, crucial in dynamic environments, offers insights through visual analytics of telemetry signals, leveraging aggregable dimensions and metadata. Our platform unifies correlated traces, logs, and events for holistic observability.

Infrastructure Observability: Infrastructure Observability grants visibility into the health and state of backend components powering applications. It enables users to gauge the availability and performance of critical services and underlying layers. Given the shift towards cloud architectures, infrastructure observability now caters to dynamic, ephemeral stacks replacing traditional static layers.

Customer Needs: Customers prioritize ease of use in understanding their infrastructure and applications. This necessitates seamless consumption of data through ad hoc queries and customizable dashboards. Furthermore, advanced visual analytics on correlated metrics, expanded dashboard visualizations, and support for derived metric functions are integral to meeting customer expectations.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Adapting OpenTelemetry Vision: Continuously refine and adapt the OpenTelemetry vision in response to market dynamics and evolving customer needs. Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements to drive innovation.

  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Develop comprehensive go-to-market materials focusing on our unique value proposition and differentiation in the market. Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to effectively communicate product features and benefits to customers.

  • Product Delivery Leadership: You will lead a cross-functional product delivery team comprising designers and engineers. Drive the execution of product initiatives, from ideation to delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and customer requirements.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, engineering, and customer support, to gather feedback and insights. You will use this feedback to inform product decisions and prioritize feature development.

  • Customer Advocacy: Serve as a champion for our customers, understanding their pain points and requirements. You will advocate for customer-centric solutions and drive initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.
