Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Watson Studio is looking for a Design Manager with the unique ability to orchestrate and optimize people, processes, and craft to amplify design's value and impact at scale. You will lead a highly talented and motivated team that can create reliable, repeatable processes that support our designers and the design work across our projects and technologies. You will work closely with Design leadership and cross-functional team members to help reduce friction, optimize consistent practices, and operationalize quality solutions for product teams and our customers.
You will use your strong negotiating and conflict resolution skills to keep alignment on user objectives and focus on end goals. You will demonstrate the value and the impact of collaboration, and you will be translating complex needs into easy-to-understand design requirements and do what it takes to push a project forward. You will be exceptionally organized and guide your team through sprint planning to make and meet commitments while focusing on user-centered outcomes and occasionally rolling up your sleeves to lead by example.
Prioritize work across multiple engagements and projects in coordination with design leaders and counterparts in engineering and product management
Work with design leads to define the long and short-term experience strategy to meet the constraints of a continuous release process while iterating toward a future vision
Enable user experience engagements that exceed customer expectations by partnering with key product stakeholders to understand and support business goals
Advocates for utilizing user-centered design industry best practices and can defend design decisions
Manage, coach, and mentor a high-performing cross-discipline design team
Continuously identifies opportunities to improve the design team process and collaborates across functions
Exemplify and foster a team culture that values: collaboration, inclusion, supportive, transparency, innovation, and honesty
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
At least 9 years of design experience
At least 4 years leading interdisciplinary teams
At least 4 years practicing and using Design Thinking
Ability to develop, lead and inspire multi-disciplinary UX teams
Demonstrated sharp, clean and intuitive design sense
Demonstrated creative and strategic thinker, able to develop innovative solutions to problems
